CME on ‘Exercise Physiology in Health and Sickness’

    A one day conference on ‘Exercise Physiology in Health and Sickness’ on 24th November 2023 was organized by the Department of Physiology under the guidance of Dr. Bhavneet Bharti, Director Principal, AIMS Mohali. The distinguished chief guest of the conference, Dr. Avnish Kumar, Director Medical Education & Research, Government of Punjab graced the event. In his address to the audience, the impact of physical activity and exercise on the overall health and wellbeing of an individual, was emphasized. Dr. Suchet Trigotra, Professor and Head, Department of Physiology said that the main objective of organizing this conference was to promote regular physical activity and exercise for health and fitness. The event was organized during ‘Physiology Week’ celebrations from 20th to 24th November from ‘The Physiological Society, U.K. Many eminent speakers related to the theme gave excellent talk followed by brainstorming discussions. Dr. Gagan Kumar Banodhe talked about CR Exercise testing and explained Exercise prescription as medicine in various non- communicable diseases. Dr. Satbir Singh, Sports Medicine expert, explained principles of exercise training for health and performance. ‘Sleep for the Champions’ was beautifully explained by Dr. Tripat Deep Singh and many more brilliant sessions.

    Over 115 delegates from various institutes of Punjab, Gujrat, Rajasthan, Jammu and Himachal Pradesh have attended the conference and 12 scientific papers were presented by experts and postgraduate students. The conference provided a platform for a diverse range of insights and up-to-date practical knowledge in the field of exercise and sports starting from basic physiology to clinical management of lifestyle disorders. The WHO Guidelines 2020 on physical activity and sedentary behavior also provide evidence-based public health recommendations for all age groups on the amount of physical activity.
